THE POSITION
We’re looking for an R Shiny UI Developer to join a U.S. press & media company supporting nationwide election data, reporting, and analytical tools.
This position is heavily focused on UI and front-end development within the R Shiny ecosystem.
You will design and build highly interactive, responsive, and visually intuitive Shiny applications that enable users to explore, analyse, and interact with complex datasets.
You’ll collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to turn requirements into clear, efficient, and elegant user interfaces.
The role involves a strong emphasis on:
UI components & layouting
User experience (UX)
Front-end logic and reactivity
Clear visual design and usability
Performance optimization
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build, and optimise user-friendly and visually appealing R Shiny interfaces.
Translate functional and analytical requirements into clean, responsive, and intuitive dashboards.
Develop custom UI elements, layouts, and interaction flows using R Shiny, HTML, CSS, and (optionally) JavaScript.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to iterate on prototypes, mockups, and UI/UX improvements.
Ensure accessibility, clarity, and maintainability across all Shiny front-end components.
Troubleshoot UI performance issues and implement enhancements for speed, usability, and responsiveness.
Implement containerized development workflows using Docker.
Deploy and maintain applications in AWS or similar cloud environments.
Document UI components, design decisions, and front-end architecture best practices.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
Strong hands-on experience with R and the R Shiny framework, particularly focused on UI development.
Solid understanding of UI/UX principles applied to analytical dashboards.
Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript integration within Shiny.
Proficiency in building interactive visualisations (plotly, highcharter, leaflet, etc.).
Experience using Docker for development/deployment.
Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, ECS, S3, or similar).
Experience collaborating with data and analytics teams.
Advanced English communication skills (written and spoken), minimum B2.
Preferred/Nice-to-have:
Familiarity with Bootstrap, bslib, Sass, or custom styling frameworks.
Background in data visualisation, statistics, or analytical tools.
