FULLSTACK ENGINEER (BACKEND-ORIENTED)

THE POSITION

We're looking for a Senior Full-stack Engineer (Backend-Oriented) to join a world-renowned U.S. Press & Media company that supports nationwide election data, reporting, and analytical tools.

In this role, you will be part of an agile team during a key growth phase. The client is currently working on high-level thinking, architecture, and role definition to expand their election services with new functionality. Effectively, you will be developing a brand-new SKU/product—a major growth opportunity to secure new contracts with existing customers and attract new ones.

This is a backend-heavy role focused on high-performance infrastructure and AWS; no specialist UI/UX skills are required.

*Project Duration: Initial contract starting as soon as possible in June until the end of the year, with potential for extension as the product evolves.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Architecture & New Product Development: Participate in the high-level thinking, architectural design, and role definition for the new product.

• Backend Development: Build and maintain scalable, robust microservices and APIs using Python or Go to process election workflows.

• Serverless Optimisation: Design and implement high-performance, event-driven backend architectures leveraging AWS Lambda functions to handle intense traffic spikes.

• AI Proficiency Integration: Implement general AI capabilities, LLMs, or smart automation features to optimise data processing and workflow coordination.

• Full-stack Mindset: Support the overall application ecosystem from a backend-first perspective, handling integrations and internal tool coordination without needing complex frontend development.

• High-Stakes Operations: Ensure system reliability, speed, and data integrity under real-world, high-pressure election reporting conditions.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Backend expertise: Strong professional experience building production-grade applications with Python or Go (Golang).

• Advanced AWS knowledge: Deep understanding of AWS services, specifically focused on high-performance architectures and AWS Lambda functions.

• AI Proficiency: Expected familiarity or hands-on experience integrating general AI technologies, LLMs, or automation concepts (nothing specific required, but comfort working with intelligent features).

• Data-Rich Workflows: Solid experience handling data queries, analysis, and high-performance backend pipelines capable of processing massive amounts of real-time data.

• Full-stack Approach: General comfort working across the stack to manage integrations and internal data views, without requiring specialised UI design skills.

• English Communication: Advanced level (B2/C1 minimum) for direct collaboration with U.S.-based engineering managers and product leaders.

Nice to Have

• Experience working on "greenfield" projects, moving from ambiguous business requirements to structured technical systems.

• Familiarity with real-time data streaming or low-latency systems.

• Background in high-stakes operational environments or monitoring tools.
