DATA SCIENTIST

THE POSITION

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join a leading international media and information services organisation focused on building innovative AI-powered products, intelligent search capabilities, and large-scale content discovery solutions.

In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional team responsible for designing and deploying machine learning solutions that enhance search, content enrichment, metadata generation, and new product development. You will work closely with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to evaluate emerging AI technologies and deliver scalable, production-ready solutions with measurable impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, evaluate, fine-tune, deploy, and maintain machine learning models in production environments, measuring and improving performance over time.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to develop AI-powered capabilities that support new products, workflow automation, content understanding, and search optimisation.

• Research, evaluate, and recommend machine learning methodologies, foundation models, LLMs, and emerging AI technologies, presenting findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Develop and improve search algorithms, retrieval systems, ranking models, and relevance optimisation strategies focused on quality, scalability, and user experience.

• Perform large-scale data analysis to identify opportunities, uncover model performance gaps, and provide actionable recommendations based on data-driven insights.

• Contribute to the design, implementation, and optimisation of scalable data and machine learning pipelines, including embedding generation, knowledge extraction, and multimodal processing workflows.

• Support the full AI/ML lifecycle, including experimentation, prototyping, deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

• Communicate findings, recommendations, and technical concepts clearly to stakeholders across engineering, product, and business functions.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• 3+ years of professional experience developing and deploying machine learning solutions in production environments.

• Strong proficiency in Python, including experience with data science libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, and processing large-scale semi-structured datasets.

• Hands-on experience applying machine learning techniques including classification, clustering, regression, ranking, and model evaluation.

• Practical experience with entity recognition, semantic similarity, information extraction, embeddings, retrieval systems, and transformer-based architectures.

• Experience working with large language models, content generation, summarisation, classification, structured extraction, and retrieval-augmented workflows.

• Experience building or optimising search systems using Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, hybrid search methodologies, relevance tuning, query expansion, and retrieval pipelines.

• Experience working with both language and multimodal models, processing text, images, and other content types at scale.

• Understanding of ML engineering practices, model deployment, monitoring, experimentation, and production lifecycle management.

• Experience with A/B testing, cohort analysis, session segmentation, confidence calibration, and performance measurement methodologies.

• Advanced English level (B2/C1 minimum) with the ability to collaborate effectively with international teams and stakeholders.
